My clients Merrilyn and Tom approached me to design their wedding stationery and website. Merrilyn and Tom have always had a love for books and decided to theme their wedding around ‘Penguin’ novels. Exciting … brand appropriation!
Since the introduction of Penguin books in 1935 by Sir Allen Lane and the ‘Popular Penguin’ designs by Jan Tschichold in 1947-49, Penguin has become iconic and instantly recognisable. Tschichold achieved this by using an original and functional three panel cover design and evenly kerned Gill Sans typeface. Using these elements, I was able to design an appropriated invitation and website for Merrilyn and Tom’s wedding.
